A Venetian fortress and a historic mountain village
Frangokastello, built by the Venetians in the 14th century, stands beside the sea and is linked to legends such as the Drosoulites. A visit combines easily with swimming at the sandy beach in front of the fortress.
In the mountains, Aradena and its impressive bridge recall the resilience of old Sfakian settlements. The route offers dramatic views and access to the gorge of the same name.
